Classes >> Competition Obedience
Competition Obedience is a sport where the dog and owner work as a team to perform obedience skills. Skills include heeling, recalls, retrieving, jumping, hand signal directions, stays, scent work, etc.
The goal of the sport is to create a strong working bond between owner and dog and as a result, produce the teamwork necessary to compete and earn titles in American Kennel Club Obedience Competitions or other registries for non purebred dogs.
Classes are taught using Positive Reinforcement techniques.
This is a six week class which will focus solely on heeling for Competition Obedience and Rally Obedience. During the class we will:
- address heeling problems
- introduce distraction training
- provide heeling challenges
- increase you and your dog’s heeling stamina
- and play heeling games to keep heeling fun and energetic.
Since this class will not provide instruction on how to teach a dog to heel, participants should have a basic knowledge of the heeling process. Novice handlers or more advanced handlers looking to focus on heeling are welcome.
Fee: $140.00
(includes tax) for non-members / $126.00 for members
What to bring: clicker, treats and a great sense of humor

Novice Drop-In Class
The Novice Drop-In class provides a structured setting to practice your dog’s basic skills in Competition Obedience. The class focuses primarily on those exercises found in the basic, or Novice, class, such as heeling, recalls, stays, etc., although most of the advanced exercises will be introduced at some point. You and your dog will have the chance to practice your dog’s skills as part of a group as well as individually.
This class is “drop-in” style, which means that you do not need to register in advance, you and your dog can simply drop in when you are able. To continually challenge and educate, there will be a planned theme for each drop in class; a schedule of themes will be distributed at class or is available by calling Tails U Win.
This class is for owners who have the basic Novice level skills and wish to practice in a more challenging setting, owners who are preparing to enter a show and need the distractions of a class, or owners who just want to keep their obedience skills sharp and have fun with their dog.
Fee: $23 (includes tax) for non-members / $20 for members, payment made to the instructor in cash or check.

Total Focus Skills Class
Group classes are fun, social and you and your dog can learn new skills. But have you ever wanted to get more practice on a particular skill, ask more questions and/or problem solve a bit more? One
solution is a private session but an alternative is our new class which
will focus for one hour on one particular obedience skill. Here is your chance to spend 60 minutes either learning, practicing, proofing or problem solving one skill at a time.
The first half hour of the class will be spent giving an overview of
the skill and ways to teach your dog the skill, for those who have not
begun to teach it. Those who already have a basic understanding can spend this time practicing and proofing the skills. The second half hour will be a practice time for those new folks and a problem solving time for the others.
Participants must have at least a Novice level of training on their dog (no actual titles required).
Cost: $23 per week ($20 for members). Sign up on line for any or all of the classes.
Classes will be held on Tuesdays from 4pm-5pm.
Contact Joyce via her instructor page for more information.
